Mogged vs Umax vs Looksmax AI: Are They Useful Face Rating Apps?

Quick Answer

Umax is the most downloaded looksmaxxing app but built its audience on hype and viral gimmicks rather than serious PSL methodology. Looksmax AI delivers a generic attractiveness score with no real community grounding. Mogged is the only app built specifically for men who understand PSL scoring, want accurate category breakdowns across 10+ facial features, and receive a structured, evidence-based improvement plan — not recycled advice. If you're serious about looksmaxxing, the choice is straightforward.

FAQ

Umax face ratings will be found in the most trending comment sections of any community — it has the acclaim and rating. Looksmax AI competes by encouraging a simple UI promise. Mogged is the PSL face rating community originated, and launched April 2026.

This work will analyze each app in a way that is relevant to face rating — which most app comparison works fail to do. “Does it look good?” “Did it uplift me?” Aren’t the actual useful measurements. Are ratings done PSL methodology, is the breakdown useful, will the plan be a filler or will there be content of substance?

Let’s go on.

Umax: Market Leader with Gimmick Problems

Umax, with its developer citing 3.5 million looksmaxxing app downloads across its different versions, is the most downloaded looksmaxxing app in the community. For the purposes of community engagement, this is both a strength and a weakness.

Umax's Successes: Normalizing the face rating app category. Many people interested in scores similar to PSL were doing it manually with scoring systems on online forums. Umax created an app that made it easy for novices. It does the basics; jawline, cheekbones, skin, eyes, canthal tilt, and in no time scoring. If you're someone who is new to PSL and just wants to get a score for a fun challenge, this app is for you.

Umax's Limitations for the Hardcore PLL User

Essentially Umax's scoring system is not PSL calibrated. Umax himself invented a system of scoring that tends to inflate scores of what the community is truly using. If you get a 7.2 from Umax, that does not at all mean you scored a 7.2 on a PSL system. PSL scoring tends to be more on the tough side and is more about bone structures; a PSL 5 is truly attractive (top 20-30% of men) and a a 5 is average-ish, whereas on a casual system a 5 is a forgiving score. Differentiating apps give people an inaccurate depiction of where they are in actuality.

Another point to be taken into account is the feature bloat. Umax has devised voice coaching, body physique analysis, and even who you closest resemble in today's society. This is all beyond the scope of facial attractiveness optimization. It's subscription padding, and the time you gained in a session is meaningless, because how many extra sessions do you get to justify spending, for something that will help you looksmax. This is a flat waste of money, as opposed to this how many more resources spent on the analysis.

In the App Store, Umax's four iterations show the same patterns: crashing, inconsistent results after having to rescanning, and paywalling after the initial scanning. One review said the app wouldn’t show the results until the user paid for a subscription, leading them to the paywall after a scan. That's a subscription mechanism, not a business philosophy.

As for the subscription, Umax’s subscription is $3.99 a week, which is almost $200 a year. Umax sends a score and a few basic ways to improve that score that just can’t be justified for that type of product.

Umax Summary: In the subscription for the self scan score, they have a lot of name recognition and that is about the only thing they have going for them. For the self scan score, Umax is not a good product. It oversimplifies the score for a person that actually understands PSL and buries the score and what you can actually do with the self scan under a gimmick.

Looksmax AI: Same Problems, Better Presentation

Looksmax AI is an upgraded version of Umax with better UI, community involvement, and improved self-improvement framing. Unlike Umax, Looksmax AI does not limit itself with face-scoring, and offers a social feed, virtual hair, and progress tracking.

Looksmax AI's strengths:

UI

The UI is modern.

Retainment

Looksmax AI has a community-layer, which enables better user retention than pure scoring apps.

Hairstyle prep

With user integration, being able to visualize a new hairstyle has helped with user grooming.

Looksmax AI's weaknesses:

Scoring techniques

PSL methodology and scoring are both disconnected within Looksmax AI's core grading scoring.

Symmetry and proportions

Looksmax AI uses the same general methods and proportions of symmetry-based attractiveness to create a rating, just as do multiple, even dozens, other "rate my face" apps.

Canthal Tilt

Looksmax AI does not analyze canthal tilt as a score, nor do they separate soft tissue versus bone structure in their jawline evaluation, and there is extreme weighting of soft tissue and other features as compared to the PSL scoring of eyes and bone, and the PSL scoring of the tissue as moderate, and soft as less.

The recommendations for improvement come off as very basic, and everyone knows this who has been in the community. Saying to a person to improve their jawline definition without specifying is not helpful if they need to lose body fat, need their Masseter muscles to develop, or if they have a structural jaw defect to begin with where them jawline soft maxxing is irrelevant, and it just soft maxxing AI is not that helpful. If you are in the same category, you all get the same recommendation. That makes no sense. That is a clear flaw.

We have also seen the problem where the pricing has not been made more transparent. The confusion in the subscription system is called out many times by the App Store where people expected it was going to be a monthly or a weekly subscription, and instead they were in for a yearly subscription. This is a business practice where you are losing your clients’ trust, and of course people do that when they think their product is awful.

For Looksmax AI, we are getting a better UX than Umax. It is also the same issue, lack of depth in scoring, and recommendation is poor. The community aspects are helpful for motivation, but it’s not for a serious analysis user who knows PSL.

Mogged: For The Community That Actually Gets This

Mogged was created in 2026 with the knowledge that there is a man out there who knows what PSL scoring is, and knows the difference between canthal and eye-hooding, and they want something that is intelligent and does not dumb down their knowledge.

What makes Mogged different:

Everyone is different. Mogged’s scans break down Joaquim’s facial structure into multiple categories and subcategories. Scan results are PSL, skin clarity, symmetry, has their own PSL anchors. Quantitative improvement is important. PSL 5.5 and jawline PSL 4.2 give you information on where best to focus improvement.

The scan works. Mogged is the only company in this category whose scans have no gaps. UMax developed multiple App Store versions with uploaded, completed scans, with blank screens on results day. Looks-max AI are so reluctant to even let their users complete scans sub-free. Mogged scans do not have this problem.

Score consistency. Moving the UMax and Looksmaxy scans to critiques, moving from labs to research, is improve variance complaints. Holding the same results with the same continuity is not with the blinds. Mogged scan captures, and therefore their results, are PSL anchors. The same anchors are put in, and the same PSL’s come out. Reliably. There’s no variable you're baseline improvement.

Purged after processing. Pictures are sent for analysis and are permanently deleted after. There's no training, no server storage, and it's all classified. For photo-required apps, what happens after analysis is a big deal. Mogged's technique is simple. Process, delete.

Actual improvements, no faking. Mogged's improvement plan focuses on specific weaknesses rather than providing general tips. Plans have procedures pertaining to masseter training, posture correction, surgical options, and body fat targets, all graded on jawline. Limits of improvement are skin. Templates do not exist for improvement roadmaps.

Cut the noise. Give an accurate facial analysis. Mogged has a one job policy and sticks to it. This means not having a celebrity lookalike, voice masculinity coach, or ancestry estimator.

Autonomy, not commitments. Mogged has flexible pricing preferring to offer individual scans for $6.99, Annual Pro for $79.99, and Weekly Pro at $3.99-$79.99. This is cheaper than what Umax charges for the same plans at a yearly rate. This is a financially low-commitment option.

Coming Soon to Mogged: You're not totally wrong. Mogged currently lacks a community social feed, hairstyle visualization, and track progress across multiple scans. If the social side of looksmaxxing — sharing your progress to get rated by other people, — is important to you, Looksmax AI's feed fulfills that. Mogged addresses the analysis and improvement plan first.

Choosing Options For The Best Experience

Use Mogged if: You already have an understanding of PSL scoring and want a serious breakdown of your results with regards to 10+ categories. Also, if you want accurate scans that work and score consistently, and want an improvement plan that focuses on your weak points rather than vague suggestions, then you should use Mogged. This is the app specifically built for you and the community.

Use Umax if: You are new to looksmaxxing and want a quick idea of where you stand in relation to the community. Lastly, if you are comfortable with scoring that is not PSL calibrated, and are okay with vague tips, Umax is the app for you. The brand recognition and community are a great place for you to start. Do not pay for the weekly subscription service to use the app for a long period of time.

Use Looksmax AI if: You care about the community and want to track your Looksmaxxing journey and share your progress with the community. Understand that the scoring will be the same as it is with Umax and the community is an important part of looksmaxxing for you.

For the record, these apps are not mutually exclusive. Use Mogged to get a serious analysis, use the improvement plan to actually guide your progress, then check community spaces for social aspects. Don't pay for a Umax subscription and expect a high PSL score from the app as the calibration is different. The confusion will lead you to an incorrect perception as to where you stand.

Mogged can be found on the Apple App Store.
